Hi! I’m Monica Calderon
I have worn many hats aside from designer. I was an assistant animator, graphic technician, teacher, team leader and manager in a fintech company and some years ago in my old hometown, even a dog breeder.
Now I have settled down with my wonderful husband in lovely British Columbia and spend most of my time working on building WordPress websites, side projects disguised as hobbies, and brushing up on my tech skills.
As an immigrant from the Philippines, I like connecting and working with fellow Filipinos in Canada.
Born and raised in the Philippines. Finished my Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Sto Tomas.
Until 2008 – Worked with animation, printing, publishing, and worked for my dream company, Philippine Daily Inquirer.
2008 – Heard the call of a new adventure and decided to move to British Columbia, Canada
2008– Started working with a Canadian financial tech company
2010-2011 – Completed my BCIT web technologies certificate while working full-time
2011 – Setup my freelance business doing graphic and web design
2016 – Left the fintech world and focused on web design
2017– Now on my next adventure taking a deeper dive into front end web development
I am a proud member of the Growing Room Collective as their Web Manager. Room Magazine is Canada’s oldest feminist literary journal and has published fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, art, interviews, and book reviews for forty years. And also a part of the team of Lara Spence Web Design and Business Writing as graphic designer.
